The Next Chapter in the BMW M Series

Since the original conception of the M-Series, finding new ways to expand the boundaries of the existing BMW models has been the singal main purpose of the BMW M designers and engineers. Now the BMW X5 M and the BMW X6 M are the first all-wheel-drive models in the M-series family to offer remarkable performance, dynamic driving experience, athletic design, and premium quality. Both models are powered by a newly-developed 4.4-liter V8 M engine delivering 555 hp at 6,000 rpm and 500 lb-ft of torque from 1500 to 5,650 rpm. This new M engine is the world's first with a pulse-tuned exhaust manifold encompassing both rows of cylinders combined with high-performance twin-scroll twin turbo technology.
For the X5 M and X6 M, engineers pushed the capabilities of BMW's intelligent xDrive all-wheel-drive system and the Dynamic Performance Control system to manage the power and performance potential of these two new vehicles. The special M suspension includes Adaptive Drive and the newly-developed Servotronic power steering. These features combine to push the limits of what was previously possible with a sports-oriented vehicle, and guarantee driving behavior characteristics of a BMW M product: incredible stability, precisely controlled steering qualities, and optimal powerful performance.

Special Tax Break Available for New Car Purchases This Year

IR-2009-30, March 30, 2009WASHINGTON :The Internal Revenue Service announced today that taxpayers who buy a new passenger vehicle this year may be entitled to deduct state and local sales and excise taxes paid on the purchase on their 2009 tax returns next year. For those thinking about buying a new car this year, this deduction may give them a little more drive to make their purchase this year, said IRS Commissioner Doug Shulman. This deduction enables taxpayers to buy now and get cash back later on their tax returns. The deduction is limited to the state and local sales and excise taxes paid on up to $49,500 of the purchase price of a qualified new car, light truck, motor home or motorcycle.The amount of the deduction is phased out for taxpayers whose modified adjusted gross income is between $125,000 and $135,000 for individual filers and between $250,000 and $260,000 for joint filers.IRS also alerted taxpayers that the vehicle must be purchased after Feb. 16, 2009, and before Jan. 1, 2010, to qualify for the deduction.The special deduction is available regardless of whether a taxpayer itemizes deductions on their return. This year has been a year for awards for BMW. At the Mondial de l' Automobile 2008 from Paris the 5 series was declared the Most Appealing Midsized Premium Car. BMW was also the most reliable car in UK in 2008. It was a very good year for BMW as far as achievements go. BMW also recieved the Engine of the Year Award, the 2008 World Green Car finishing up with the OkoGlobe Award for BMW's Efficient Dynamics technology. BMW has also become the cleanest UK manufacturer.

Car-2 Car Communications coming to the Future BMW'S

BMW announced that the Car-2-Car technology developed by BMW, Daimler, Renault, Fiat and Audi, might find its way in the future BMW vehicles. This goes hand in hand with the new NGTP telemetrics that will be available starting with the next generation BMW 3 Series that will prodived a series of in-car services.

What is the Car-2-Car communication? C2C is the exchange of information and data between vehicles through visual and audio interfaces. To name one of the most common examples, basically is a car comes at a confusing road in front or a barrier, and it needs to stop, the vehicles will send a signal to a following car announcing them of the situation ahead, through a buzzer or a visual signal displayed on the windshield.

This of course applies to other situations such as traffic jams, snow and icy roads, accidents and road blocks.

The technology is still in its early phases and multiple standards and requirements need to be met, starting with the WI-Fi technology that is going to be used. The key a successful Car-2-Car communications system is for all the automakers to use the same standards, that would assure a compatibility between vehicles, cheaper costs and future system updates and improvements being rolled over to all the cars.

It is clear that such technology has endless possibilities and it will change the way drivers interact on the road, but hopefully the technology will not become proprietary. Recently, Volkswagen began testing the Car-2-Car technology and the results are promising.
