The 2011 BMW 3 Series Sneak Peek

BMW has announced substantial enhancements to the 2011 3 Series Coupe and Convertible, including outstanding style updates for 328i and 335i models and a new engine for 335i models. The 2011 3 Series Coupe and Convertible models will go on sale in Spring 2010. Unchanged are each car's essential attributes of rear-wheel drive (xDrive is available on the Coupe), close-to-perfect 50-50 weight distribution, remarkably precise steering, and skillfully engineered suspension.

All-new is the engine for the 335i model. This turbocharged, all-aluminum engine features nearly the same 'short block' and 3.0-liter displacement of its predecessor, but the result is an engine that is more responsive, more fuel efficient, and cleaner-running. Preserved is the previous engine's output of 300 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque, and a 7,000 rpm redline. The 6-speed manual gearbox remains standard, and the well-known 6-speed Steptronic automatic is optional, now featuring ''pull-style'' shift paddles on the multifunction steering wheel.

IR-2009-30, March 30, 2009WASHINGTON :The Internal Revenue Service announced today that taxpayers who buy a new passenger vehicle this year may be entitled to deduct state and local sales and excise taxes paid on the purchase on their 2009 tax returns next year. For those thinking about buying a new car this year, this deduction may give them a little more drive to make their purchase this year, said IRS Commissioner Doug Shulman. This deduction enables taxpayers to buy now and get cash back later on their tax returns. The deduction is limited to the state and local sales and excise taxes paid on up to $49,500 of the purchase price of a qualified new car, light truck, motor home or motorcycle.The amount of the deduction is phased out for taxpayers whose modified adjusted gross income is between $125,000 and $135,000 for individual filers and between $250,000 and $260,000 for joint filers.IRS also alerted taxpayers that the vehicle must be purchased after Feb. 16, 2009, and before Jan. 1, 2010, to qualify for the deduction.The special deduction is available regardless of whether a taxpayer itemizes deductions on their return. What is the Car-2-Car communication? C2C is the exchange of information and data between vehicles through visual and audio interfaces. To name one of the most common examples, basically is a car comes at a confusing road in front or a barrier, and it needs to stop, the vehicles will send a signal to a following car announcing them of the situation ahead, through a buzzer or a visual signal displayed on the windshield.

This of course applies to other situations such as traffic jams, snow and icy roads, accidents and road blocks.

The technology is still in its early phases and multiple standards and requirements need to be met, starting with the WI-Fi technology that is going to be used. The key a successful Car-2-Car communications system is for all the automakers to use the same standards, that would assure a compatibility between vehicles, cheaper costs and future system updates and improvements being rolled over to all the cars.
