Overview

The 2014 BMW 6 Series includes a remarkable series of coupes and convertibles which unlike the 5 and 7 Series models are known for their stylish appearance and killer looks complimented with some great performance. With its roots tracing back to the 1970's, the third generation of the 6 Series cars have managed to emerge as one of the leading contenders in their respective categories. The 6 Series models offer competition to the likes of Audi S5, Mercedes E- Class coupe and the Jaguar XK models with their excellent fuel efficiency and roomier interiors.

Power and performance

For 2014, all the 6 Series Gran Coupe models will now be available with the company's xDrive all-wheel-drive system and a six-speed manual transmission has been made standard on all models of the M6 model. Also all the models would have the carbon ceramic brakes which would increase the driving efficiency of the M6 models and improve the aesthetic quality as well. All the 2014 6 Series models except the M6 is powered by an 8-speed automatic transmission with xDrive all-wheel drive system. The 640i is powered by a 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine which churns out 315bhp and 330 pound-ft of torque while the 650i is powered by a 4.4-liter V8 engine which delivers 445bhp and 480 pound-ft of torque. The estimated fuel economy rate of the 650i coupe and convertible model is at 17mpg city/25mpg highway.

Body and styling

Also a limited 100 edition BMW 6 Series Convertible Frozen Brilliant White Edition model would be available in the market with a rear-wheel drive 650i or 650i xDrive trim. This new model would have Frozen Black wing mirror caps, black BMW kidney grilles, 20-inch BMW M Performance light-alloy wheels, Black Nappa leather upholstery, black convertible soft top and wooden trim. The M Sport Package and Executive Package are also included as standard features of this Limited edition model. This new model would also debut the new BMW Dynamic Digital Instrument Cluster which allows the car's interior presentation to change with the various Driving Dynamics Control modes. The 640i, 650i and M6 models would also benefit from the newly introduced BMW navigation system, iDrive 4.2, which now features a revised design and upgraded operating system. The new navigation system has revised graphics and 3D elements with new levels of animation and dynamic transition. The split screen in the center information display also features new functions and the navigation system now also has full speech recognition and optimized voice control system. Also two phones can be linked to the car at the same times and the data sharing speed between the phones has also been increased.

Safety Features

Speaking of safety, the 2014 BMW 6 Series comes fully-equipped with antilock brakes with advanced standby and drying features, front knee airbags, active head restraints, traction and stability control, and front and side-seat airbags and BMW Assist program as standard, and no major changes have been introduced this year.
