Serving Elmhurst, IL

The 2025 BMW X1 is the smallest crossover SUV in the current lineup, identical to the 2024 model. The X3 is a slightly larger crossover SUV that will introduce its latest generation in 2025. The new generation displays a fresh look, additional tech features, and updated engineering. How do these popular models stack up in a side-by-side comparison?

Performance

The 2025 BMW X1’s two trim levels have the same powertrains as the previous model year. These are a 2.0-liter turbo, four-cylinder unit that generates 241 horsepower and a sport-tuned variation that puts out 312 horsepower. Both trim levels come with all-wheel drive and a seven-speed automatic, dual-clutch transmission. The 2025 X3 is also available in two trim levels with two different engines. Both are designed with a mild-hybrid system for the first time. These engines are a turbo 2.0-liter, four-cylinder unit that generates 255 horsepower and a turbo 3.0-liter, V6 engine that delivers 393 horsepower. They pair with an auto eight-speed transmission and all-wheel drive.

Appearance

The BMW 1’s character is established by a tall yet slightly arched hood and a subtle descent down the hood. The doors are styled with a thick, creased accent line. At the front end, the kidney-style grille has boxy corners, and it sits above a bold lower fascia. The headlights have a pair of bent LED bars that sit above L-style air vents. The X3 has tall, flatter dimensions with a hint of smooth sculpture over the doors. The nose is styled with an LED-outlined grille and a broad lower fascia flanked by thick, L-style inlets. The angled headlights have two L-shaped LED bars.

Features

Both of these BMW crossover SUVs are remarkably equipped. The X1 comes with wireless app connections, a 10.7-inch touch display screen, a panoramic sunroof, a drive recorder, a 360-degree camera, augmented reality with a navigation system, automated parking, a head-up display, auto braking with parking sensors, a heated steering wheel with paddle shifters, a wireless charging pad, a driver assist package and a Harman Kardon sound system. The X3 builds on these features with Parking Assistance Professional, an iDrive controller, driver’s memory functions, and the new OS9 system.
