An Ever-Widening Circle: Elmhurst University at 150 – BMW of Elmhurst Dealer

Explore the dynamic 150-year history of Elmhurst University and its interdependent relationship to the community at An Ever-Widening Circle: Elmhurst University at 150. This special sesquicentennial exhibit takes place at the Elmhurst History Museum and runs through Jan. 22, 2022. It traces the growth of Elmhurst University from an all-male theological proseminary to a thriving modern campus. It will also explore how the college’s close relationship with the City of Elmhurst impacted this development. At BMW of Elmhurst, we’re excited that the Elmhurst History Museum continues to bring engaging and informative exhibits to the city.

An Ever-Widening Circle: Elmhurst University at 150 provides a detailed timeline of Elmhurst University’s growth into a modern institution using rare photographs, artifacts, and more. The exhibit’s themes include daily student life in the late 1800s, the development of sports teams, and the ultimate welcoming of women and minority students to the campus. Interesting archive items on display include rare on-campus film footage from 1940 and school spirit items from the 1950s.

“The school has always been strongly connected to the community, and the City of Elmhurst has been positively impacted by the educational values, cultural opportunities, and resources that result from having a world-class institution of higher learning in its midst,” said Dan Bartlett, curator of exhibits at the Elmhurst History Museum. “It’s a wonderful asset for a town or suburb to have a university at its core for 150 years.”

An Ever-Widening Circle: Elmhurst University at 150 is part of a year-long celebration. The exhibit is sponsored by Feze Roofing, Community Bank of Elmhurst, and Storino, Ramello and Durkin Attorneys at Law.

Through Jan. 22, 2022, during the museum’s regular hours. The Elmhurst History Museum is open Sunday and Tuesday through Friday from 1-5 p.m. Saturday hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
