Art With a Message: There is Black Housing in the Future – BMW of Elmhurst Dealer

There is Black Housing in the Future: Equitable Public Housing as Memorial is an installation that takes place at Elmhurst Art Museum’s McCormick House from Dec. 3, 2020, through May 9, 2021. This exhibition is the creation of Alisha Wormsley and Ayanah Moor. It’s designed to further activism and education to support mothers struggling to secure the future of Black housing. This installation looks to be fascinating and provocative. We at BMW of Elmhurst hope you get a chance to visit the Elmhurst Art Museum and take a look.

There is Black Housing in the FutureBased in Pittsburgh, Alisha Wormsley is a cultural producer and artist. Ayanah Moor is a conceptual artist and professor of print media at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. There is Black Housing in the Future reflects on artists, writers and organizations that champion the security of Black communities. A complementary video offers suggestions for young people who would like to get involved by creating posters, yard signs and even kites with positive messages.

The installation is presented in conjunction with the Monument Lab, Germany’s Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung (Federal Agency for Civic Education) and the Goethe-Institut. It runs in conjunction with the forthcoming exhibit, In Focus: The Chicago Freedom Movement and the Fight for Fair Housing, slated to begin in March 2021.

Admission:
Admission is free with museum admission. The Museum recommends advance registration for non-members. Visit https://www.elmhurstartmuseum.org/visit/covid for advance tickets and information about the museum’s COVID-19 protocol.

Admission:

  • Adult admission: $15.
  • Senior admission (65 and older): $12.
  • Museum members, students with school ID, and anyone 18 and under is admitted free.
  • Museum admission is free on the first Friday of every month.
