BMW Expands Esports Platform – BMW of Elmhurst Dealer

The BMW Group is expanding its involvement in esports, with a new platform and collaborations with the leading global esports organizations. These new partnerships will include developing content for social media information sharing, as well as technology transfer with its engineers and designers on hardware and software. Additionally, BMW Motorsport will continue its simulated racing events. At BMW of Elmhurst, we’re glad to see responsible gamers staying home and doing their part to stay healthy.

BMW Expands Esports PlatformThe esports organizations include Cloud9 in the United States, Fnatic in the United Kingdom, G2 Esports in Germany, FunPlus Phoenix in China, and T1 in South Korea. Together, these organizations encompass approximately 200 players who compete in contests, including Dota 2, Fortnite, League of Legends and more. These events draw millions of fans who watch the tournaments and engage online. To support the activities, BMW will create exclusive content on different social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Twitch, using the #UnitedInRivalry hashtag.

“Joining forces with the best teams in the world, we aim to use our design and innovation skills to help shape the discipline in the long term,” said Jens Thiemer, senior vice president consumer and brand for BMW.

BMW’s commitment also includes providing official team vehicles. Each organization will have a team car featuring a custom design and each group’s logo. The attractive designs were developed by BMW and the different teams.

The BMW Group first received major attention in the esports world in 2017, when the automaker was the official partner of the European League of Legends finale in Paris. The expansion into esports comes at a time when the world is beset by challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As millions of people around the globe are following stay-at-home directives, BMW is promoting a safe way to socialize, intending to flattening the curve in the United States and overseas.
