BMW Unveils 2021 BMW M3 Sedan and M4 Coupe – BMW of Elmhurst Dealer

BMW recently introduced the new BMW M3 and the M4 coupe variant. Both cars follow the traditions of the previous models, but for 2021 BMW has added optional all-wheel drive (AWD) to the mix. The AWD system is the same rear-biased M xDrive arrangement introduced in the latest BMW M5. It splits torque between the axles, as well as between the rear wheels. The system lets the driver select a rear-wheel-drive mode at the push of a button. At BMW of Elmhurst, we’re big fans of the BMW M3 and M4 models, and we look forward to their debut next year.

The M3 and M4 are powered by a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged inline-six that generates 473 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque in the base models, an increase of 48 hp from the previous models. This engine develops 503 hp and 479 lb-ft in the Competition models, an increase of 59 hp and 73 lb-ft over the outgoing models. According to BMW, the 0-60 mph time for the base M3 and M4 is a mere 4.1 seconds. The Competition models can make the same trip in just 3.8 seconds.

Unlike many competitors, the M3 and M4 continue to offer a six-speed manual transmission. An eight-speed automatic gearbox replaces the outgoing models’ seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. The base models come with the manual transmission and rear-wheel drive, while the Competition models get the automatic and available all-wheel drive.

The new 2021 BMW M3 and M4 have water and oil cooling systems engineered to withstand the high temperatures of track driving. The dual-branch exhaust system tuned for performance and sound, with chrome twin exhaust tips that are black chrome on Competition models. Drivers can select Sport or Sport+ modes to turn up the exhaust sound’s intensity to match the vehicle’s boosted dynamic feel. An M Sound button works in all drive modes. It lets the driver reduce the engine note as desired.

The 2021 BMW M3 and M4 will arrive in March 2021 as rear-wheel-drive only models, while the optional all-wheel drive will be available in the summer.
