Celebrating our Founder: Eleanor King Hookham – BMW of Elmhurst Dealer
The show runs through Jan. 16, 2023, and pays tribute to the museum’s founder. Hookham was an educator and artist who exhibited her work on the international stage and was instrumental in establishing the museum. The McCormick House will showcase artwork by Hookham from the museum’s collection, alongside historical photos and documents demonstrating her role in securing the historic home for future museum visitors to enjoy. At BMW of Elmhurst, we’re grateful to have this esteemed art museum in our community. We hope you can attend this exhibition at the McCormick House.
Hookham’s innovative work is on display in the Children’s Wing of the McCormick House. The collection includes watercolors, oil paintings, and her distinctive ink and coffee drawings. Known professionally as El King, Hookham was an internationally renowned artist. Don’t miss this opportunity to view her trailblazing creations.
Hookham was instrumental in establishing a vision for the museum and gaining the community’s support. She later worked to secure Mies van der Rohe’s McCormick House as the cornerstone of the new arts complex. She finally saw her vision come to fruition at the 1997 museum ribbon cutting. In recognition of Hookham’s efforts, the Parent’s Wing will showcase documentation of her founding vision for the museum, along with photos and videos of the McCormick House. Also featured is historical information provided by former residents Ray and Ann Fick and photos of the McCormick House’s move to its new home on the museum campus.
