Discover Jazz With the Alyssa Allgood Quartet – BMW of Elmhurst Dealer

Jazz lovers should mark Saturday, May 7, 2022, on their calendars. That’s the date jazz makes a comeback at the Music at Bethel concert series. This performance features the Alyssa Allgood Quartet. The concert takes place at the Bethel United Church of Christ’s sanctuary. At BMW of Elmhurst, we’re constantly amazed at the quality of talent the Bethel concert series brings to our community. We encourage everyone to make it out to this concert and enjoy a great night out.

Alyssa AllgoodAllgood’s soprano stylings recall Betty Carter and Ella Fitzgerald. Former Chicago Tribune music critic Howard Reich called her “a fast-rising Chicago singer.” He added, “Allgood combines an unpretentious stage manner with a sophisticated jazz sensibility.” The New York City Jazz Record called her “an emerging talent of considerable strength.” DownBeat Magazine said she is an “impressive bop-oriented singer.”

She has graced the stage of venues such as Andy’s Jazz Club, Fitzgerald’s Nightclub, The Jazz Showcase, Merriman’s Playhouse, The Taste of Chicago, and The Whiskey Lounge. Allgood was named Best Jazz Entertainer at the 2019 Chicago Music Awards. She won the first Ella Fitzgerald Jazz Vocal Competition in Washington, D.C. in 2017.

Allgood’s debut album, “Out of the Blue,” was released in fall 2016. It was widely praised by critics, particularly for her accomplished scat singing and instrumental style. Her follow-up album, “Exactly Like You,” was released in 2018 on Cellar Live Records. Chicago Jazz Magazine called it “the vocal record of the year.” Her latest album, “What Tomorrow Brings,” was released in 2021. It features a mix of interpretations of classic songs and four original compositions.
