Discover Luftwerk: Parallel Perspectives – Elmhurst BMW Dealer

June 21st, 2019 by

Visit the Elmhurst Art Museum and discover Luftwerk: Parallel Perspectives, which runs through August 25, 2019. The exhibit was specially designed for this installation, using light and color to illuminate the McCormick House, which was designed by Mies van der Rohe. The art installation was created by Luftwerk, a collaboration between Petra Bachmaier and Sean Gallero, who are based in Chicago. The project will stimulate your senses and change your perceptions while making use of the geometry of the mid-century home. We support the arts at Elmhurst BMW, and we think this is an interesting and exciting exhibition.

Luftwerk: Parallel PerspectivesThe installation uses color to transform the architectural features of McCormick House, building on a suggestion by the building’s developers, Herbert S. Greenwald and Robert Hall McCormick, who proposed to tint the windows of their proposed prefab development “almost any shade of the rainbow.”

Luftwerk: Parallel Perspectives is unlike anything you’ve seen before. Visitors will experience remarkable transformations of light and color, utilizing changing elements. Included are a bedroom that is completely transformed by light, pulsating light boxes, neon and mirrored effects and panes of colored glass. Viewers will be immersed in color effects that change their perceptions of space while honoring the home as a prototype for prefab housing.

Luftwerk: Parallel Perspectives is part of Bauhaus100, an anniversary celebration of the German art school that’s observed around the world. The exhibition continues the year-long investigation of Mies’ architecture, which started with the Barcelona Pavilion and ends at the Farnsworth House.

This promises to be an original and intriguing art installation. We hope you have a chance to experience Luftwerk: Parallel Perspectives before it ends in August.
