Discover the Rescuer of Once Loved Things: The Art of Donna Castellanos – Elmhurst BMW Dealer
Come discover an art exhibition that’s like nothing you’ve ever seen! In the Rescuer of Once Loved Things: The Art of Donna Castellanos exhibit, you’ll see art that’s recycled from cast-off belongings. Castellanos refers to these items as “once loved things,” which she transforms into wearable jewelry, clothing, paintings and sculpture. This interactive exhibit at the Elmhurst Art Museum begins on Saturday, March 17 and runs through Sunday, May 6. All of us at Elmhurst BMW encourage you to experience this unique exhibition created by Elmhurst resident Donna Castellanos.
In Rescuer of Once Loved Things: The Art of Donna Castellanos, the museum’s galleries are turned into rooms in a home, such as a playroom, study or dressing room. Castellanos’ art is arranged in each room based on the commonality of the items. For example, you might see repurposed encyclopedias in the study. The art created from once loved things evokes a sense of nostalgia as you walk through each gallery. The exhibit is interactive because you’re invited to participate by creating your own art.
Castellanos was born and raised in Elmhurst. She earned a graphic design degree from the American Academy of Art in Chicago. In addition to being an artist, she’s also the Elmhurst Art Museum’s education program coordinator. In this role, she creates interactive and interpretive displays for the museum’s major exhibitions to help visitors engage with the art and explore their creativity. For the past five years, she’s also been the curator and art director for Flight 112, a bar, gallery and restaurant in Elmhurst.
The Rescuer of Once Loved Things: The Art of Donna Castellanos is a unique exhibit that you don’t want to miss!
