Enjoy A Cole Porter Celebration – BMW of Elmhurst

The Bethel United Church of Christ presents A Cole Porter Celebration on Sunday, Nov. 20, at 3 p.m. Enjoy the music of this beloved composer and songwriter. Selections include “It’s De-Lovely,” “Night and Day,” “Wunderbar,” and “You’re the Top.” If you’d like to fall in love all over again with some of the wittiest, most humorous, and most romantic songs from the 20^th century, you won’t want to miss this event. At BMW of Elmhurst, we’re grateful for the performances the Bethel United Church of Christ offers our community. We hope you can make it out to this event. A Cole Porter Celebration features soprano Felicia Burkovskiy, soprano Lara Filip, tenor Vincent McPherson, and baritone Nathan Rago.

Cole Porter (1891-1964) was an American songwriter and composer whose songs became standards. Porter’s musical compositions were notable for their witty, sophisticated lyrics. Many of his songs became successful in movies and on Broadway.

Porter began to attain success in the 1920s. By the next decade, he was one of the most popular Broadway songwriters. Unlike many musical stage composters, he wrote the lyrics and music for his songs. After a lull in the 1940s, Porter made a comeback with his most successful musical, “Kiss Me, Kate,” which won a Tony Award for Best Musical.

Porter’s hits include “Begin the Beguine,” “I Get a Kick Out of You,” “I’ve Got You Under My Skin,” and “Night and Day.” In addition to Broadway musicals, he also composed scores for films such as “Born to Dance,” “Rosalie,” “In the Still of the Night,” “High Society,” and Les Girls.”
