Enjoy the Music of Schubert Virtually – BMW of Elmhurst Dealer

The music of Franz Schubert is on offer at Elmhurst’s Bethel United Church of Christ. This virtual streaming concert takes place on Sunday, March 14 at 4 p.m.  Part of the church’s Music at Bethel Concert Series, the performance will feature Schubert’s Piano Quintet in A major, popularly known as “The Trout.” At BMW of Elmhurst, we’re proud to have so many talented musicians in our midst, and we hope you have the opportunity to enjoy this free performance.

Franz SchubertSchubert wrote the Piano Quintet in A major for piano, violin, viola, cello and double bass. The Trout Quintet’s name comes from the fourth movement, which takes its theme from one of Schubert’s lieder, Die Forelle (The Trout). The work has long been a favorite of both musicians and audiences. The concert features performances by pianist Jeffrey Panko, Jennifer Leckie on violin, Terri Van Valkinburgh on viola, Timothy Archbold on cello, and Andy Anderson playing double bass.

Austrian composer Franz Schubert (1797-1828) produced a significant body of work throughout his short life. His works consisted of over 600 secular vocal pieces, seven symphonies, religious music, operas, chamber music and piano music. He composed the Trout Quintet in 1819 at age 22, but the work was published posthumously in 1829, one year after Schubert’s death.

Jeffrey Panko, the featured pianist, is the Artistic Director and Minister of Music of the Bethel United Church of Christ’s Monday Evening Concert. He also serves as the Piano Faculty Coordinator at Chicago’s New Music School. Panko has received awards in numerous competitions, including the Society of American Musician’s Piano Competition in Chicago and the Frinna Awerbuch International Piano Competition in New York.
