Explore the World of 3D Printing – BMW of Elmhurst Dealer

Explore the world of 3D printing in a virtual class presented by the Elmhurst Public Library on Friday, May 28, 2021, at 10 a.m. During this Zoom event, attendees will learn the basics of 3D printing and discover the various types of 3D design projects that can be submitted and printed using the library’s Makery. 3D printing, also known as additive manufacturing, involves making three-dimensional solid objects from a digital file. These objects are created by combining successive layers of building material, such as plastics, wax, liquids or powder grains, until the desired size and shape is achieved. The process allows you to produce complex designs with less material compared with other manufacturing methods.

A wide variety of products for a diverse array of industries can be created using 3D printing technology. Examples of these products include:

• Consumer products, such as eyewear, footwear and furniture
• Industrial products, such as prototypes, tools, and functional end-use parts
• Automotive parts
• Aerospace parts
• Dental products, such as implants, crowns and retainers
• Prosthetics and braces
• Architectural scale models
