Golf Meets Art at Par Excellence Redux: The Front 9 – BMW of Elmhurst Dealer

Have a “hole” lot of fun at Par Excellence Redux: The Front 9, a golf-themed art installation hosted by the Elmhurst Art Museum from July 7 through Sept. 26, 2021. This unique, interactive exhibit features a miniature golf course with nine playable works of art designed by local and national artists. Par Excellence Redux - The Front 9Par Excellence Redux: The Front 9 pays homage to Chicago artist Mike O’Brien’s 1988 Par Excellence miniature golf exhibit, which was lauded by local and national media outlets and eventually turned into a commercial venture called ArtGolf. While artist-designed miniature golf courses have become a population attraction at many U.S. art museums, Par Excellence is credited with starting the trend.

The new exhibit features nine custom-built mini golf holes with a variety of interesting themes, including a hole promoting social justice, a fortune-telling hole that can change scores, and a hole with a challenging optical illusion.

The art displays for Par Excellence Redux: The Front 9 were designed by Julie Cowan, Current Projects, Andrea Jablonski & Stolatis Inc., Annalee Koehn, Latent Design, Jesse Meredith, Gautam Rao, Robin Schwartzman & Tom Loftus, and the museum’s Teen Art Council. A second exhibit called The Back 9 will open in the fall. Both exhibits are curated by Christopher Jobson, the founder and editor-in-chief of the art website Colossal.

Museum members receive 25% off admission prices. The exhibit can be rented for private birthday parties, company retreats, weddings and more.
