Join the ESO as It Presents Bach’s St. John Passion – BMW of Elmhurst Dealer

The Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra performs Bach’s St. John Passion at the Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church on Saturday, March 12 at 7 p.m. This performance, a highlight of the season, will be held under the guidance of the ESO’s esteemed Music Director and Conductor, Stephen Alltop. At BMW of Elmhurst, we’re grateful to have such a superb orchestra in our community. If you’re a classical music lover, you won’t want to miss this event.

Joining the ESO is the Apollo Chorus of Chicago, the area’s premier volunteer chorus. Alltop stated, “With the combined power of the ESO and the Apollo Chorus, along with five distinguished soloists who have devoted much of their artistic lives to this music, our listeners will hear a performance of utmost passion and musical excellence.”

Johann Sebastian Bach composed the St. John Passion during his first year as director of church music in Leipzig. The piece sets the Passion of Christ to music, as told by the Gospel of John. Bach first performed the work at the St. Nicholas Church in Leipzig at Good Friday Vespers in 1724. Bach would revise the piece several times during the following 25 years.

The venerable Dr. Ted Hatmaker welcomes the audience to attend his pre-concert talk, Behind the Music Stand. This lively discussion begins at 5:45 p.m.
