The Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra performs Neiman Plays Brahms on Sunday, Nov. 12, at 4 p.m. The event takes place at the Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church. This concert features music by Johannes Brahms, including the Third Symphony and Piano Concerto No. 1, performed by pianist Adam Neiman. The performance will be led by Musical Director and Conductor Stephen Alltop. At BMW of Elmhurst, we know this concert will make a lasting impression on classical music lovers. Neiman Plays BrahmsThe Neiman Plays Brahms program is dedicated to the memory of Chicago Symphony Orchestra Principal Hornist Dale Clevenger, who died on Jan. 5 at age 81. He was the music director and conductor of the Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra from 1981 to 1995.

The Chicago Tribune lauded Pianist Adam Neiman, who returns to perform Brahms’ Piano Concerto No. 1. The newspaper wrote, “He was clearly born to be a pianist, and is carrying out a destiny written in his genes.” This is a must-see concert. Neiman is a Grammy Award nominee with a distinguished international career. He has performed as a soloist with many of the world’s foremost orchestras.

The program begins with Brahms’ Symphony No. 3 in F minor, Op. 90. The symphony features somber, moving passages. It includes prominent use of the French horn, the instrument Clevenger played for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra for 47 years. It’s followed by Piano Concerto No. 1, Op. 44, the composer’s first-performed orchestral work.

The audience is invited to attend an informative and entertaining pre-concert lecture with the esteemed Dr. Ted Hatmaker at 2:45 p.m.
