July Brings a Comprehensive Software Upgrade to BMW Connected Cars – BMW of Elmhurst Dealer

This month, BMW releases its most wide-ranging software update ever, featuring new and upgraded features for navigation and connectivity. Buyers will receive these features in every BMW vehicle that uses Operating System 7, including the new BMW 5 Series. Owners of some compatible BMW vehicles built before July can add these updates as a free over-the-air software upgrade, beginning in the third quarter of 2020. Here are highlights of the new update package:

BMW Maps
This new cloud-based navigation system provides improved performance, higher accuracy, more responsive navigation and intuitive destination entry. BMW Maps combines real-time data with prediction models to calculate routes faster than before. BMW Maps also provides contextual information for points of interest, including business hours, images and ratings.

BMW Digital Key for iPhone
Recently announced at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference, the BMW Digital Key allows customers to use their iPhone as a secure, fully digital car key. The car can also be started using an iPhone. The key can easily be shared with up to five users. Owners can restrict certain vehicle parameters, such as the top speed and audio system volume, which is particularly valuable when the key is shared with younger drivers.

BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant
This feature gets a redesign, with several intelligent functions. The virtual character can now lean toward the person talking and differentiate whether it’s addressing the driver or the passenger.

According to BMW, the new software update can be downloaded and installed over-the-air in approximately 20 minutes.
