La Grange Virtual Home and History Tour – BMW of Elmhurst Dealer
If you’re interested in our area’s historic homes, you’ll love the La Grange Virtual Home and History Tour. This virtual event takes place on Sunday, September 20, at noon. The tour has been adapted from the La Grange Area Historical Society’s popular Home and History Tour to provide area residents with a virtual tour of four historic homes and one commercial building. At BMW of Elmhurst, we’re grateful for these virtual events that allow community members to participate while staying safe.
The La Grange Virtual Home and History Tour is led by the homeowners of the different properties and runs for 90 minutes. You’ll be able to listen to their stories while touring these amazing homes. You won’t have to worry about the weather or climbing up stairs. Sit back and enjoy the tour from your computer, tablet or phone.
Here’s a quick overview of the properties you’ll visit:
- 335 North Kensington, La Grange Park: You’ll learn about the connection this home has to the notorious bootlegger, Pete Swanson. The homeowners will talk about the home’s special features, heirlooms and restoration projects.
- 405 South Waiola, La Grange: This home appears in the “Book of the Western Suburbs: Homes, Gardens, Landscapes, Highways and Byways, Past and Present,” published in 1912. You’ll hear many interesting stories about this property and learn about its recent redesign transformation.
- 312 South Sunset, La Grange: This elegant early 20th-century home features etched and stained-glass windows, as well as a brass and copper fireplace hood.
- 209 West Cossitt, La Grange: This is La Grange’s smallest Victorian Home. You’ll hear about its connection to Cossitt School and view the homeowners’ collections.
- Jackson Storage, La Grange: You’ll view a freight elevator designed to accommodate horse-drawn vans, unique musical instruments, and maybe even a few ghosts!
All participants will receive a link to the Virtual Home and History Tour on Sunday morning. If you can’t make it to experience the tour at the start time, you can access it from noon to midnight on the day of the event.
