June 24th, 2021 by

Delve into the world of Frida Kahlo during a virtual lecture on the artist’s life and work hosted by the Elmhurst Public Library on June 30, 2021, at 7 p.m. Presented by Diana Martinez, director of the McAninch Arts Center (MAC) at the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, the lecture will focus on Kahlo’s ongoing relevance and popularity in the art world. It will also cover Frida Kahlo: Timeless, the largest exhibit of Kahlo’s work in the Chicago area in over 40 years, on view at the MAC now through Sept. 6, 2021. At BMW of Elmhurst, we’re inspired by the art of Frida Kahlo, and we’re looking forward to learning more about the woman behind the artist during this online event.

Frida Kahlo: TimelessFrida Kahlo was a Mexican painter known for her many self-portraits and use of bold, vibrant colors. Her work was heavily influenced by a bus accident that left her severely injured at 18. She regularly explored the themes of chronic pain, gender, identity, class and race in her paintings.

Frida Kahlo: Timeless features 26 original pieces by the influential artist and an immersive historical exhibit explaining how and why she rose to prominence in the 20th century. The immersive section includes:

  • More than 100 photos from Kahlo’s life
  • A multimedia timeline with reproductions of the artist’s clothing
  • A Frida Kahlo-inspired garden
  • A family-friendly area for children
