New BMW 5 Series Debut Imminent – BMW of Elmhurst Dealer
The BMW 5 Series is about to get a refresh. Judging by the teaser image released by the manufacturer, we expect a sleeker appearance. At BMW of Elmhurst, we’re looking forward to seeing the first released photos of this luxury sedan.
BMW gave journalists a look at the updated 5 Series at its General Meeting on Thursday. The automaker stated the full reveal will come in less than two weeks. Also announced are electric versions and 48-volt mild-hybrid technology.
Leaked photos indicate there won’t be any substantial design changes, but we expect the 2021 BMW 5 Series to feature an updated grille and slimmer headlamps. The rear takes some cues from the 2020 BMW 3 Series, particularly in the taillights. We’re waiting to see if a more powerful 545e plug-in hybrid is in store for the 3 Series lineup.
We’re expecting three new exterior paint colors: Aventurin Red Metallic, Bernina Grey Amber Effect and Phytonic Blue Metallic.
Other changes we may see include M Sport brakes with red calipers, which would be a first for the 5 Series. Inside, the 2021 BMW 5 Series will get wireless Android Auto smartphone integration, something the automaker announced last year as a standard feature on all models equipped with the BMW Operating System 7.0.
The 2020 5 Series lineup features four trim levels, each with a different engine:
- The 530i gets a 2.0-liter engine that makes 248 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque.
- The 530e iPerformance plug-in hybrid is powered by a 2.0-liter engine that develops 248 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque.
- The 540i is motivated by a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine that produces 335 hp and 331 lb-ft.
- The M550i comes with a turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 that puts out 523 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque.
The M550i gets standard all-wheel drive, while the others have standard front-wheel drive and optional all-wheel drive.
