On Your Mark at 4 on the 4th – BMW of Elmhurst Dealer

July 4 is Independence Day. But the date also marks the 17th edition of the Elmhurst Running Club’s 4 on the 4th run. This four-mile race begins at 7:15 on Prospect Ave., just south of Elmhurst University’s main gates, between the University and Wilder Park. A special 1K race for kids ages 5-12 starts at 8:20 a.m. Here at Elmhurst Toyota, we feel lucky to live and work in a community with so many events to enjoy. 4 on the 4thEntrants in the race will be competing for cash prizes, which will be awarded to one male and one female runner in each place.

  • First place: $200
  • Second place: $125
  • Third place: $75
  • There’s an additional $400 cash prize for setting the course record.

4 on the 4th is a CARA Runner’s Choice Circuit and a USATF-certified race. The terrain is mainly flat, with three small hills. Each mile is marked, and there are two water stops at the 1.5- and 2.5-mile points. Water is also available at the beginning and end of the race.

This is a race for runners. Bicycles, scooters, skates, strollers, other wheeled vehicles, and pets are prohibited on the course. The race will go on, rain or shine.

Parking is available on the Elmhurst University campus, accessible via Hagans/Elm Park or Myrtle/Alexander from the west (http://public.elmhurst.edu/campusmap), along the Metra tracks to the north, or at the city garage on Adelaide St. via Park/York to the east. Participants can also park on local streets.
