Raúl Ortiz: More is More – BMW of Elmhurst Dealer

July 8th, 2022 by

The Elmhurst Art Museum presents Raúl Ortiz: More is More, an exhibition of contemporary art that runs through Aug. 14, 2022. In contrast with Mies van der Rohe’s modernist philosophy of “less is more,” Ortiz’s paintings utilize color, patterns and forms to create multi-layered and textured paintings that incorporate botanical shapes, line, architecture and ethnographic patterns. This exhibition showcases 13 of Ortiz’s paintings that are sure to provoke and delight the viewer. At BMW of Elmhurst, we’re continually impressed with the many offerings by the Elmhurst Art Museum. Check out the museum for Raúl Ortiz: More is More. You won’t be disappointed.

Raúl Ortiz: More is MoreRaúl Ortiz was born in Diego Rivera’s hometown of Guanajuato, Mexico. His family moved to Chicago’s Little Village when he was five. Ortiz attended Columbia College, where he studied photography. He transferred to the University of Illinois at Chicago, receiving a BFA in Painting and Printmaking. His exhibitions include the Evanston Art Center, University Club of Chicago, National Museum of Mexican Art, the Wright Museum of Art, the Rockford Art Museum and more. Ortiz’s paintings can be found in many private and public collections throughout the United States. He was an artist-in-residence at The Cliff Dwellers Chicago in 2005.

Ortiz’s current paintings are influenced by his years as a printmaker. Chicago Gallery News wrote:

“As a process painter, Ortiz’s goal is to create a poetically contemporary landscape that captures an array of subtle shapes, textures, gestures, light and vibrant color relationships derived from the tradition of abstraction.”
