The Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra’s Orchestral Brilliance – BMW of Elmhurst Dealer
Join the Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra as it presents Orchestral Brilliance on Saturday, May 7 at 7 p.m. This unforgettable evening features a program designed to delight every classical music fan. The featured works include Shostakovich’s “Festive Overture” and Rachmaninoff’s “Festive Dances.” The highlight of the evening will be guest artist, percussionist She-e Wu. She’ll perform Grammy Award-winning Jennifer Higdon’s visionary “Percussion Concerto.” At BMW of Elmhurst, we’re continually awed by the level of virtuosity of the Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra. We’re sure you’ll enjoy this exciting season finale.
Guest artist She-e Wu has appeared as a solo artist at venues including the Bach Symposium/Bach Variation Festival in Lincoln Center, perKumania festival, Jouournées de la Percussion and more. She has commissioned and premiered works by Ronald Caltabiano, Gerald Chenoweth, Robin Engelman, Eric Ewazen, Lee Hyla, Paul Lansky and Dafnis Prieto. Wu is an Associate Professor of Music and the Head of Percussion program at Northwestern University.
Before the concert, the audience is invited to attend the illuminating and lively talk, Behind the Music Stand, led by the inimitable Dr. Ted Hatmaker at 5:45 p.m.
Orchestral Brilliance is dedicated to the memory of Wanda Maxson, the first president of the Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra’s Auxiliary and a long-time orchestra supporter. The concert is underwritten in part by gifts from Ralph Maxson (Shostakovich’s Festive Overture) and Keith and Irmgard Olson (Higdon’s Percussion Concerto and Rachmaninoff’s Symphonic Dances.)
