The Enchanting Magic of Mendelssohn – BMW of Elmhurst Dealer

Join Bethel United Church of Christ as it presents The Magic of Mendelssohn on Sunday, March 13, 2022. This classical performance features Felix Mendelssohn’s Piano Trio No. 1 in D minor and Piano Trio No. 2 in C minor. Piano Trio No. 1 in D minor was composed in 1839 for piano, violin and violoncello, and was later transcribed for the flute. Today, it’s one of Mendelssohn’s most popular chamber works. Born in 1809, German composer Felix Mendelssohn wrote symphonies, concertos, piano music, organ music and chamber music. His well-known works include the Scottish Symphony, the Italian Symphony, and the overture and incidental music for “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” He also wrote the melody for the Christmas carol “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing.”

Mendelssohn is said to have made his first public concert appearance at the age of nine when he played in a chamber music concert. He wrote 12 string symphonies and chamber works between the ages of 12 and 14. His first work, a piano quartet, was published when he was 13. Mendelssohn wrote his first symphony for full orchestra in 1824 at 15.

Performers for the Magic of Mendelssohn include Music at Bethel’s artistic director and pianist Jeffrey Panko, cellist Paula Kosower and flutist Jennie Brown.
