Join the Elmhurst Public Library for a screening of the award-winning documentary, The Unimaginable Journey of Peter Ertel. This hybrid event takes place on Thursday, Sept. 29, 2022, at 6:30 p.m. A Q&A session with the film’s director, Joseph Cahn, follows the film. The Unimaginable Journey of Peter Ertel The Unimaginable Journey of Peter Ertel tells the story of a German amateur violinist forced to serve in the Nazi army, despite his apprehensions about Hitler. Moreover, Ertel refused to murder “enemy soldiers.

Ertel survived the war, immigrated to the United States, and became an American citizen. He eventually got a job working for a company owned by Orthodox Jews, who considered him a member of the family.

The Unimaginable Journey of Peter Ertel is the account of a man who endured despite seemingly insurmountable odds and lived happily in Cleveland, Ohio. The movie recreates Ertel’s story along with his own narration of his time in the German army, surviving the frigid Russian winter, and finding acceptance in a Jewish company in Ohio. Peter Ertel was 95 at the time of filming.

After watching this inspiring story, you’ll have faith that humanity can survive the bleakest times.

Director Joseph Cahn has been producing, writing, and editing film and video productions for almost 30 years. He started Victory Films in 2004. Before that, he was a producer/editor for several Cleveland-area multimedia firms. He is a past producer for NFL Films, where he wrote and edited the company’s highlight films and segments for ESPN and HBO.
